Your right to a Good Faith Estimate
Under the federal No Surprises Act, you have the right to an estimate of what your care will cost.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate
Under the federal No Surprises Act, health care providers are required to give clients who do not have insurance, or who are not using insurance, an estimate of the expected charges for services.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any mental health services that are not billed through insurance. This includes psychotherapy and related services.
What this means for you
- You can ask Empowered Mental Health, or any provider, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service or at any time during treatment.
- Save a copy of your Good Faith Estimate.
- The estimate is based on information known at the time it is created. It is not a contract and does not require you to receive the services listed.
If your bill is higher than your estimate
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you may have the right to dispute the bill. You can start a dispute process with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services within 120 days of the date on your bill. There is a small fee to use the dispute process.
