What depression feels like
Depression is more than a bad week. It is a heaviness that lingers, a loss of interest in things you used to enjoy, low energy, trouble concentrating, changes in sleep or appetite, and a sense that nothing will change. It can be quiet and hard to name, and it affects teens and adults alike. Depression is common, and it responds well to treatment.
At Empowered Mental Health in Bismarck, our clinicians help you understand what is keeping you stuck and build a realistic path back toward feeling like yourself.
What we help with
- Persistent low mood and loss of interest

How we treat depression
We tailor treatment to you. Our clinicians use evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to shift the thought and behavior patterns that feed depression, Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills for emotional regulation, and trauma-informed work like EMDR when past experiences are part of the picture. The goal is steady, practical progress.
What to expect
Your therapist starts by understanding your story and how depression shows up for you. Together you set realistic goals and build tools that help you re-engage with life, one step at a time. You do not have to have it figured out before you start.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if it is depression?
If low mood, loss of interest, or low energy have lasted more than a couple of weeks and are affecting your life, it is worth talking to someone. A therapist can help you sort it out.
What therapy works for depression?
CBT and DBT skills both have strong evidence. When past trauma is part of the picture, EMDR can help too. Your therapist will recommend the right fit.
Do you work with teens?
Yes. We work with teens and young adults and involve caregivers as appropriate.
Do you prescribe medication?
No. We provide therapy, not medication management. If medication may help, we can coordinate with your medical provider.
Are you accepting new clients?
Yes. You can book online through our secure patient portal, or call (701) 805-1939.
