Couples Therapy in Bismarck

Communication that goes in circles, trust that needs rebuilding, or a relationship that has quietly gone flat. Couples work is available at Empowered with three of our clinicians.

Most couples wait too long

The common pattern is to come in after years of the same argument, when both people are tired and one is close to done. Therapy can still help then. It helps more before that.

You do not need a crisis to justify the appointment. A stretch of feeling like roommates is a reason.

What couples work addresses

  • Communication that turns into the same fight every time
  • Rebuilding trust after a breach
  • Disconnection, distance, and feeling unseen
  • Conflict over parenting, money, or family
  • Recurring resentment that never quite resolves
  • Deciding whether to stay together, with support either way

How sessions work

Both partners are in the room. The therapist is not there to pick a side or decide who is right. The work is on the pattern between you, which is usually the actual problem, rather than on either person individually.

Expect to be asked to try things between sessions. Couples work that stays in the office rarely changes anything at home.

Who you would see

Talia Biederstedt, Mariah Banse, and Kaydee Baker all work with couples at Empowered. If you are looking for broader work across a whole household rather than the two of you, see family and marital therapy.

Where we meet

In our Bismarck office at 101 Slate Dr Ste 7, or by telehealth anywhere in North Dakota. Telehealth works for couples as long as you can both be somewhere private for the hour.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What if my partner will not come?

Individual work on a relationship is still worth doing. One person changing how they respond often changes the pattern. Come in on your own and we will start there.

Do you take sides?

No. The therapist works on what is happening between you. If one of you feels consistently ganged up on, say so in session, because that is worth addressing directly.

Can couples therapy help us decide whether to separate?

Yes. Clarity is a legitimate goal. The work supports an honest decision rather than pushing toward one outcome.

Are sessions longer than individual therapy?

Standard sessions run about an hour. Ask about longer sessions if you want more room to work in one sitting.

Do you offer couples work for unmarried partners?

Yes. Married, engaged, dating, or long term partners are all welcome.

Ready when you are.

Taking the first step is often the hardest part. A short conversation, at no charge, is usually enough to know whether we are a fit. In person in Bismarck, or by telehealth anywhere in North Dakota.
