Therapy for Young Adults in Bismarck

The years between eighteen and twenty five ask a lot of a person. Our therapists work with young adults navigating independence, identity, relationships, and the anxiety that often comes with all three.

What young adulthood actually feels like

You are expected to have it figured out. Career, money, relationships, where you live, who you are. Most people this age do not have it figured out, and the gap between the expectation and the reality is where anxiety and depression take hold.

Add the transitions. Leaving home. Starting or leaving college. A first serious job. A first serious breakup. Each one is a real adjustment, and each one can surface things that were manageable before and are not manageable now.

What we help with

  • Anxiety, including social anxiety and the constant low hum of worry
  • Depression and the flat, unmotivated stretches that come with it
  • Trauma, including experiences from childhood that surface once you have space to feel them
  • Identity and self worth
  • Relationship patterns, boundaries, and communication
  • Life transitions, college stress, and career pressure

How we work with young adults

Straightforwardly. You set the agenda. We are not going to talk about your childhood unless it is useful to talk about your childhood. Sessions are collaborative, and you will leave with something to work with rather than just something to think about.

Depending on what you bring in, that might mean CBT for thought patterns that have gotten stuck, EMDR or Accelerated Resolution Therapy for trauma, or a mix.

Who you would see

Emma Pelach and Elizabeth Thein both work with young adults. You can read their full backgrounds on the team page and ask for either by name when you call.

Sessions are available statewide

We see clients in our Bismarck office at 101 Slate Dr Ste 7, and by telehealth anywhere in North Dakota. If you moved for school or work, you can keep the same therapist.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a diagnosis to start therapy?

No. Plenty of people come to therapy because something feels off, not because they have a label for it. We will figure out together what is going on.

Can I still see a therapist if I moved away for school?

Yes, as long as you are physically in North Dakota during the session. Our therapists are licensed statewide and telehealth is available.

Will my parents find out what I talk about?

If you are eighteen or older, your sessions are confidential. We do not share what you discuss without your written permission, with the narrow exceptions the law requires around safety.

How long does therapy take?

It depends on what you are working on. Some people come for a focused stretch of eight to twelve sessions. Others stay longer. We will talk about it openly rather than leaving you guessing.

Do you take insurance?

We are in network with several plans and can verify your benefits before your first session. Call us and we will check.

Ready when you are.

Taking the first step is often the hardest part. A short conversation, at no charge, is usually enough to know whether we are a fit. In person in Bismarck, or by telehealth anywhere in North Dakota.
